APTANA This is a different matter. We have to get the aptana hassle behind us. By aptana, I am referring not so much to the specific software as the basic requirement that every one of us has an excellent rig we can use for accessing and programming what we have on our server. I am sticking with Aptana at least through this project. I would like to grab the Aptana code base and resurrect the open source project and establish ourselves as leaders in that. However, that requirement is inconsequential compared to all of us having good systems for programming now. James encountered an issue with Aptana, where the version of the Java SDK he needs is ancient. I had forgotten about this but to run Aptana on OSX, we have to install an ancient version of the Java SDK also. We are fortunate that Apple made that easy for us, but that seems like thin thread for us to rely on. I am going start another thread on this topic. The point for this thread: is your system fully operational now with regard to aptana. The work you did on AboutUS gave me the impression you are all set. Is that the case?
For a moment, I was. Then I wasn't. Now I am. The whole Aptana user connection to the server thing befuddled me for a moment, but I was switching one thing I didn't need to switch and I knew better. I was connecting SFTP instead of FSTP and wanting to kill my Aptana wondering whyyyyyyyyyyyy it wasn't working. Then I re-read my notes, and cursed my addle brainded-ness, and fixed it. This is why I still need crayons and am not ready to graduate to colored pencils yet. I am now roaring and ready to destroy other things. I may go destroy other things on my copy of the blog when I get stuck on my assignment, since it's mine to tear apart.
This report helps a lot. The reason sftp isn't working is I don't have a way to enable it that is safe. In other words, there is a block on the server that won't let you login with sftp. ***** putting my index fingers to my temples, repeating the ancient mantra of galactic eff tee pee quid quid id est Timeo Danaos, et dona ferentas! ********* Got it. That Cabal of the EFF TEE PEE has enlighted me and whispered that your ip address is 107.132.240.81 So I am making sure that ip is on the white list in fail2ban I had to rely on tge Cabal, because I forgot you had told me your IP. So I guess this not is a long way of me doing a spot check of fail2ban and letting you you are set there on the white list with ip 107.132.240.81 I cannot remember if you have seen this. This is where I am cloning and making an unnatural child, using a copy of writer02 as one of the inputs. If you need to restore you blog we can restore to that. In addition, we have these backups of everything all the time. The directories marked backup.99 are hourly. Daily, weekly, and monthlies are named so you can tell what they are. I need to set you up with access.
Ah, no, I haven't seen the backups. This is marvelous! This makes me feel much better about experimentation. I knew experimentation was okay, but now I feel really okay. Even if I do something like the cat just did while I was reading this...like surfing my planner and code notebook, sliding around on it, knocking into my coffee cup, and sending all for a glorious whirl. While I was cleaning that mess up, I'd left the message reply open, and the pit bull had decided to try to type Hello To Dan. Although it's clear he doesn't quite type English. Programming with cats, and a pit bull, can get interesting. Also, I knew better than to try to connect SFTP, knew way way way better. Either way, I overcome the brain glitch! I am sure there will be lots more on the horizon. Also, cats slamming into coffee cups.
Little update on the note of IP addresses and white lists. I've changed to the address of 69.92.239.171. I'll change again shortly, but for a few weeks I am gypsying it out in a hotel room and that's where my caravan is parked.
How is that going, Carla? Are you having any luck with Aptana? Good for you, keeping at it like this! I can just picture you surrounded with boxes, living on pizza, and there you are hunched over your computer screen messing with Dan's hookups. Awesome. And definitely steely-eyed.
my MySQL database keeps stopping itself in my XAMPP setup. Never had any issue before. Not really seeing any issue with Aptana at the moment. I'm needing to know a whole lot about building Maria MySQL databases I think, is where I'm stuck at now, so I've been doing a lot of cramming/reading during the move. And math. Plus some reading vampire stories too. Just cause the brain needs a break. And some dog walks. Definitely NO pizza though. I am perma burnt out on pizza, although I saw the Pizza Hut down here is hiring. I started to twitch. No management--I need to ease up on myself, but maybe a carryout phone fairy until we get settled and I get more understanding about hooking up? LOL! Lots of turkey sandwiches though. I found 25 pounds that needs to go away.
LOL! Food on the road is the worst. It's so cool that you keep going with the programming while you're in between homes. I'm like that too though, I need to be learning something new to be happy and feel like I'm making progress.
